Dual Beam Advantage
Being a multi-species ice guide, I need to equip my clients and myself with the best electronics to get the job done in any fishing situation we might encounter. With that, I look no further then a Vexilar FL-18 or FL-20 teamed with a dual beam ice-ducer. With this set-up, I get the flexibility to cover deep water, shallow weed cover, steep breaks, mid-lake flats, and everything in-between with the simple flick of a switch. Using the narrow 9 degree ducer, I can pierce through the water column to jig up Lake Trout in depths up to 300 feet of water or shoot through dense weeds to see that BlueGill hiding amongst it's cover. Then as I flip over to the 19 degree ducer, I can comb a shallow sand grass flat for roaming walleyes or pluck off suspended crappies as they move about the water column. The Key Element
The transducer is the single most important component of any sonar unit. It is also the most susceptible to damage. The interior is partially composed of a high quality crystal called barium titenate. Continual or intense impact can adversely affect the integrity of that crystal, which ultimately contributes to sub-standard performance from your sonar. Think of all the situations where impact or vibration is possible the transducer might fall from a table or onto the ground if not properly secured in one of the portable packs (Pro Pack II, Genz Pack or Ultra Pack), an IceDucer could roll around in the bed of a truck while traveling to or from the lake (think ice heaves, ruts and snow drifts!) or the transducer is dragged behind the angler on the ice while they wander from hole to hole. Limiting impact and vibration can prevent sensitivity loss and will keep your transducer in top working order.
